Congratulations to Laini for publishing your first book!
You are an inspiration to us all. I read once that, “necessity lends wings to inspiration”. In Star Trek: The Next Generation, there was an episode where the crew met some people who were all clones. Their people group didn’t want any ‘disabled’ or ‘imperfect’ people, they wanted to save the ‘perfect’ people, so they cloned the best ones. Enter Geordie La Forge who was born blind. The people said that in their culture, his life would have been terminated at birth, as he was 'imperfect'. Geordie said that his blindness led to the development of his special visor so that he can see. He can not only see, but his visor also allows him to see ultraviolet and infrared light, thermal patterns and magnetic fields. Geordie ended up saving that race because the creativity he had, his "wings of inspiration". Without the necessity of wanting to see, where would the inspiration be to make new devices?
And you, Laini, have given us the prompts, or ‘necessity’, if you will, to write, to be creative, to dig deep -- so you are our wings of inspiration. Thank you! I know that the ‘wings’ on your blog and Laini’s Ladies, are very different than this, but I just wanted to thank you in a different way.
Go to Sunday Scribblings for more stories about wings.
